Please take a short walk to the Dream Grove in front of the entrance to the Nimitz Building. The two Redbud trees are coming into bloom and they are truly lovely. They have a deep grey bark with buds and flowers shading from mauve and magenta to pink. Believe it or not, these are members of the pea family and have "pods" in the fall which serve as food for birds and squirrels. They are native to southeastern North America . In the Ozarks and the southeast, the Redbud and Flowering Dogwood come out in clouds of pink and white among the lacy green of the early leaves. It is the state tree of Oklahoma.

All of the plantings in the memorial garden are doing well. The benches provide a lovely spot for a restful moment.
