Last Thursday's walk, led by Brenda Bibb and enhanced by the co-sponsorship with RayBEN was a wonderful late summer experience. It was a gorgeous sunny, but windy, day as about a dozen of us set out to explore some of the gardens and trees around the property. RayBEN provided each walker with a reusable shopping bag loaded with goodies as part of this "green" activity. Brenda took us from the gardens planted near the Nimitz main lobby, to the lovely butterfly bush at the south lobby and surrounding plantings, then over to the front of the Providence lobby, where we also learned about the importance of the trees of Newport. From there we walked over to the meadows, where we learned more about the management of the meadows and scattered wildflower seeds to color the area (we hope) next spring and summer. Two lucky folks answered trivia questions about what we had learned and won prizes donated by RayBEN. All in all, a pleasant and educational experience.
