LEARN EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT TREES

Do you love trees? Do you wish you knew more about them? Do you feel that your community needs more trees and healthier trees? If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, then the Rhode Island Tree Council thinks you should take its Tree Steward Course. Two courses are offered each year in the spring and fall, six evening classes and two Saturday workshops are taught by professional instructors at different locations around the state. Stewards learn how to identify trees, diagnose problems, plant, fertilize, prune, water, and nurture trees. They also learn how they may volunteer to plant trees in their neighborhoods.

To become a certified Rhode Island Tree Steward, participants are asked to attend seven out of eight sessions and volunteer 30 hours of tree related community service. Being a Rhode Island Tree Steward certifies that an individual possesses sufficient knowledge, skills and informed concern to bring about effective tree care. The council has many rewarding projects for tree stewards, such as hands on pruning and planting projects, helping to develop their municipalities’ tree programs, and participating in tree education programs.

The Rhode Island Tree Council is taking registrations for its Fall 2007 Tree Stewards Education Course. Classes will meet on six Wednesday evenings: September 19- October 24 at the:
DiVinci Center
Charles Street
Providence

Two outdoor classes scheduled for two Saturdays are to be announced.

Missed classes can be made up during the following sessions. To complete the program, participants are asked to volunteer thirty hours for the benefit of community trees.

To register for the course, or for further information, call Jeanne Current at the Rhode Island Tree Council office, 401-861-1995, or e-mail ritree@ritree.org The registration fee is $55.00 which includes an Education Manual. Master Card and Visa accepted.
